When I finished high school I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do at university but I was interested in Business so I settled on a Bachelor of Commerce. As I completed first year the Management and Marketing electives appealed to me so I chose to select these as my majors.
Many people think of marketing as simply advertising products or services, but it is so much more than that. It is a fascinating and complex process that follows goods and services from their inception to the customer and beyond, and that is why I chose to study it. Studying Marketing and Management gave real insights into the way the world works and I have found what I studied relevant not only to my job but to everyday life.
I was fortunate enough to receive a Cadetship from the Department of Finance and Deregulation while I studied, which provided me with a valuable glimpse into working life, and I am currently in Canberra undertaking their Graduate Program working on the Federal Budget. I hope to begin an MBA in Marketing sometime in the next few years.
I know University can seem daunting – I took a few gap years and studied part time before I completed my degree – but the support provided by the team at the School of Indigenous Studies and the Business School is excellent, and the sense of achievement once you complete a degree and begin your career makes all the late nights, stress, assignments and exams worth it.
