The School of Indigenous Studies at UWA is extending its Outreach Program to now include a day just for Year 9 students called “Djinanginy” meaning “looking”. The program will further help Indigenous students understand what the university environment is like through lecture style activities as well as hands-on activities from a number of different study areas on campus.
Due to the numbers, we are planning activities that are both informative and interactive in a lecture theatre setting. There will also be a hands-on activity outside of the lecture theatre, which may require some physical involvement.
By giving the students a taste of a few different study areas, we hope to stimulate an interest in university study which they may not have considered previously.
In addition to hands-on activities, students will meet current Indigenous university students and are informed of university entry pathways and the School of Indigenous Studies' Outreach Program. Students also receive lunch and a free t-shirt.
All participants need to arrive no later than 9.15am to complete their registration, ready to start the first activity at 9.30am.
The day will conclude by 2.30pm after lunch.
The program is free for participating schools.
Registrations for 2021 will open Term 3 (see link on right of screen).
Applications close Friday, 29 October 2021.
